Reporting to the Head, Reference and Library Services, the incumbent will provide information services to students, faculty and employees and assist with research needs. The successful candidate will contribute to the learning environment at UDST through the support of reference and user services at the Library.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will

  • Recommend, interpret, evaluate, and/or use information resources to help students, faculty, and employees with specific information and research needs
  • Identify information, reference and research needs and fulfill these needs via reference interviews, email and other communication formats
  • Support the Head, Reference and Library Services in the provision of reference and library services and the development of curriculum-embedded support for information literacy
  • Create, revise and maintain online subject and resource guides — on courses, technologies, current trends and Library resources — to aid students and faculty with their research needs
  • Deliver both general and tailored information literacy sessions, research classes, and orientation sessions; ensure these sessions are interactive and assessed appropriately
  • Support library collection development, through review of relevant lists, knowledge of publications, feedback from users, needs identified via curriculum and accreditation reports, etc.
  • Work closely with other librarians, full-time staff, part-time staff and student assistants at the Library on relevant projects
  • Maintain a working knowledge of scholarly communication to support other librarians when needed
  • Participate on University-wide and internal library committees as needed while promoting policy alignment with library best practice
  • Remain abreast of library best practice as well as conduct and promote library research

  • Reference and Research Proficiency: Ability to recommend, interpret, evaluate, and utilize various information resources to address the specific research needs of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Information Retrieval: Expertise in identifying and fulfilling reference and research needs, using various tools and formats (e.g., reference interviews, email, and other communication platforms).
  • Resource Evaluation: Ability to evaluate information sources for quality, relevance, and credibility, ensuring they align with academic needs.

2. Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Effective Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to engage with students, faculty, and colleagues through various platforms, including email, in-person consultations, and presentations.
  • Reference Interviews: Conducting effective reference interviews to understand the user’s needs and provide tailored support.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work closely with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and other librarians, to fulfill research needs and improve library services.

3. Instruction and Teaching Skills:

  • Information Literacy Instruction: Ability to deliver interactive and engaging information literacy sessions, ensuring that students and faculty are equipped to find, evaluate, and use information effectively.
  • Research Classes and Orientation: Ability to develop and deliver tailored research workshops, orientation programs, and one-on-one sessions with students and faculty, assessing learning outcomes and providing feedback.
  • Curriculum-Embedded Support: Develop and implement strategies to integrate information literacy into the curriculum, enhancing students’ research skills.

4. Digital and Technology Skills:

  • Online Subject and Resource Guides: Ability to create, maintain, and update online subject and resource guides, using digital tools and platforms to make resources accessible to students and faculty.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with the latest educational technologies, library management systems, and digital resources to support research and information literacy initiatives.

Qualifications
Education and Certifications

  • Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science, from an ALA-accredited or equivalent program, is required

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in libraries or a closely related field

Language

Fluency in written and spoken Arabic language is preferred

Fluency in written and spoken English language is required

Assistant/Associate Professor in Environmental Chemistry/Environmental Sciences

Your Commitment
The chemistry faculty will focus on delivering high-quality teaching in the College of General Education curriculum and fostering a positive learning environment to support all UDST academic programs. The role involves teaching first-year undergraduate chemistry courses and some science electives focused on green chemistry, nanotechnology, renewable energy, and sustainable materials. Additional responsibilities include curriculum development, supporting students’ academic progress, and conducting independent research. Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching dossier and research plan best prepare them to fulfill an interdisciplinary role in the science department.

    • Research Planning and Execution: Experience in developing a research plan, securing funding, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
